Pacific Jewel – Third Ship to Encounter Propulsion Problems
Pacific Jewel, one of P&O Australia’s cruise ships fell in third on the list of those cruise ships that has to cancel their sailings due to propulsion problems.
First on the list was the Regent Seven Seas Voyager that had a faulty pod; then came Celebrity Century, which had to cancel its voyage due to rudder problems. Finally, just Monday last week, Pacific Jewel had to cancel its 11-day Pacific Sunsets cruise. The ship was on its way to return from New Caledonia from a Southwest Pacific Island cruise. The problem was quite remedied with travelling at a reduced speed.
Previous to that, the company already made some announcements that the company will have to undertake some dry dock repairs and would therefore, cancel a November voyage.
All 2,000 passengers will get full refund plus an additional 25% discount if they embark on a cruise anywhere between this month and the 31st of March next year.
According to one travel agency, the situation where Celebrity Century encountered disruption was a “perfect storm” of events. Aside from Celebrity Century’s cancelled cruise, they also have to deal with rail strikes in France, limited number of flights from Nice and the ship had to end its voyage in a tender port.
Hopefully, these series of unfortunate events will soon end or will stop with Pacific Jewel’s recent malfunction.
